Terms and Conditions

Welcome to Young Heart Driving School, an online Ministry-Approved Beginner Driver Education (BDE) course provider located in Ottawa and operating virtually throughout Ontario. By registering for our services, including the BDE course, private lessons, and road test car rentals, you agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions. These terms are designed to ensure clarity and mutual understanding between the school, its instructors, and students.

Lesson Scheduling and Cancellation Policy

Students are required to schedule all in-car lessons through the designated process outlined by the school. Lessons are available seven days a week, year-round, ensuring flexibility for students to book sessions that align with their schedules. However, students must adhere to the cancellation policy. If a student cancels or fails to attend an in-car lesson without providing a minimum of 36 hours’ notice, a cancellation fee of $40.00 will be charged to compensate the instructor for their time and must be paid before rescheduling any further lessons. For private lessons and road test car rentals, cancellations made less than 36 hours before the appointment will not be eligible for a refund, and a $40.00 fee will also apply.

All in-car lessons must be completed within one year of purchase. If the driving school is unable to deliver all lessons requested by the student within the one-year period, the school will provide a refund for the remaining lessons. Lessons that have already been delivered cannot be refunded, regardless of whether the student has passed or failed the road test or whether the student feels satisfied or dissatisfied with the lessons. Refunds for completed lessons will only be considered under rare conditions, solely at the school’s discretion. If there is a significant gap between lessons due to circumstances beyond the school’s control or availability, resulting in lessons not being completed within one year, the school will assess the situation. If the delay is caused by the school, a refund for the remaining lessons will be issued. However, if the delay is caused by the student, no refund will be issued.

Taking 10 hours, 20 hours, or even 30 hours of in-car lessons does not guarantee that a student will be ready for the road test. The learning process varies greatly from one person to another. Some individuals may require as little as two hours of lessons to be road test ready, while others may need 10 hours or more. The school does not guarantee road test readiness based on the number of lessons or a specific package chosen by the student. Taking a specific course or renting the school car for the road test does not guarantee that you will pass the road test. Success in the road test depends on various factors, including the student’s skill level, preparedness, and performance during the test.

Refund and Payment Policy

Payments for all services, including in-car lessons, private lessons, and road test car rentals, are non-refundable once the services have commenced. However, partial refunds may be issued in specific cases where agreements were made between the student and the school or instructor beforehand. For example, if a student purchases a package that includes 10 hours of in-car lessons but requires fewer lessons, the unused portion may be refunded based on mutual agreement.

For the BDE course, refunds are available within specific timeframes and are subject to additional fees. If a student begins the online portion of the course and decides to withdraw within 15 days, a refund may be issued. However, a $60.00 administrative fee will be deducted, along with any payment processing fees incurred by the school. If a student does not start the course at all, a refund may still be issued within 30 days of purchase, but the same $60.00 administrative fee and any applicable payment processing fees will apply. If the student begins the BDE course and completes some in-car lessons within the first 15 days, the school will deduct the cost of the completed in-car lessons at the current hourly rate, as well as the $60.00 administrative fee and payment processing fees, before issuing a refund for the remaining balance. For BDE courses that include add-ons, such as road test car rentals, refunds for add-ons are not available after 15 days, regardless of whether the course has been started or not. Any changes to the BDE course package, including adjustments to add-ons, must be requested within 30 days of purchase. The school reserves the right to refuse a refund if the student does not comply with these policies or if the request falls outside the stated timelines.

Payment Plans

We offer flexible payment plans to make our services more accessible. For the BDE course, students may opt for a payment plan consisting of two or three installments. While the first payment grants access to the online portion of the course, the full payment must be completed before beginning in-car lessons. Similarly, road test car rentals and private lessons must be paid in full at the time of booking.

Course Expiry

The BDE course must be completed within one year of the start date. This includes both the 30 hours of online learning and the 10 hours of in-car lessons. Failure to complete the course within the stipulated timeframe will result in course expiration. To continue, students will need to re-register and pay for the course again.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Policy

Our school offers pick-up and drop-off services for in-car lessons, provided the student resides within our designated service area. This area currently includes Ottawa, with plans to expand to other parts of Ontario in the future. Students living outside the designated area may request pick-up and drop-off services for an additional fee. The exact fee will depend on the location and will be communicated upon request. Students are encouraged to contact the school office for further clarification.

Road Test & Car Rental Policy

Our road test car rental service provides students with a dual-brake vehicle that meets Ministry requirements, along with insurance coverage for the duration of the road test. Students are responsible for any traffic tickets, including speeding or red-light violations, incurred during the test. If a road test is canceled due to reasons beyond the student’s control, such as issues at the testing center, the school will work with the student to reschedule the appointment. However, if the package included practice lessons that have already been conducted, additional lessons will need to be purchased separately.

When selecting a road test package or planning to rent a school vehicle for the road test, students should be aware that certain restrictions may apply. Our standard road test car rental price covers road tests conducted within the city of Rockland. While we are able to accommodate tests at other DriveTest locations, additional fees may apply to cover the cost of travel and instructor time. Rates for locations outside Rockland vary depending on distance and scheduling requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to contact the school in advance to confirm availability and receive an exact quote for road test car rental services outside Rockland.

Instructor Availability

While we strive to ensure that all lessons occur as scheduled, we acknowledge that unforeseen circumstances may arise. Instructors may need to cancel or reschedule lessons due to emergencies, personal matters, weather conditions, or other unexpected events. In such cases, the instructor will provide as much notice as possible. In rare situations, lessons may need to be canceled during the session if safety is compromised, particularly during adverse weather conditions. Students are advised to remain flexible and understanding, as the safety of all parties is our top priority.

Liability and Safety

Vehicles used for in-car lessons are insured under the school’s policy, ensuring coverage for accidents or damages that occur during lessons. However, students are responsible for traffic tickets or fines incurred while they are in control of the vehicle. Any damages caused to the vehicle due to intentional or negligent behavior by the student may result in the student being held liable for repair costs. All students must present a valid G1, G2, or full G driver’s license before each lesson. Failure to provide a valid license will result in lesson cancellation, and a fee may apply.

Certification Process

To be certified for the BDE course, students must successfully complete 30 hours of online learning and 10 hours of in-car lessons within one year. Certification is processed online through the Ministry of Transportation's Driver Education System. Students will receive an email notification once their certification is complete. Before visiting ServiceOntario to request their Driver’s License History (DLH), students must confirm their certification status with the school. The DLH serves as proof of course completion and may qualify students for insurance discounts; however, discounts are not guaranteed and are subject to the discretion of the insurance provider.

Lesson Scheduling

Students are permitted to schedule up to two hours of in-car lessons per day. Lessons are available seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, ensuring maximum flexibility to accommodate varying schedules.

Privacy and Data Handling

We prioritize the protection of students’ personal information. Data collected during registration, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and driver’s license information, is securely stored and used solely for the purposes of lesson scheduling, certification, and communication. Personal information is not shared with third parties, except as required by law or for certification purposes. Our complete privacy policy can be found on our website.

Student Behavior Policy

Students are expected to behave respectfully and follow all instructions during lessons. Disrespectful, disruptive, or unsafe behavior may result in lesson termination without a refund. In extreme cases, students may be barred from continuing lessons, at the discretion of the school and instructor.

Changes to Terms

The school reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to students via email or posted on our website. Continued use of our services after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
